Dear WAESOL Members:
With the WAESOL 2006 Annual Conference less than a month from now, we are very busy finalizing the program and schedules for you. This year we have received a lot more proposals than before and the Conference Proposal Reading Committee has selected more than fifty presentations for this year’s conference. You will find wonderful sessions to meet your needs and interest. They cover a wide variety of innovative topics for K-22 educators, from current research to interactive hands-on practical ideas and techniques that you can apply to your teaching and learning. There are also workshops on using technology and media in the classroom.
As the theme suggests we need to build our community and empower our students with language. Many workshop presentations will focus on reading and literacy, language and culture, as well as curriculum design, community building, and professional development ideas. There will also be wonderful opportunities for you to network with other educators and professionals and browse through publishers.
We also have invited a special guest, Diane Carter, Co-Chair of TESOL 2007 Convention to join us and update us on TESOL 2007 Convention in Seattle.
This year, we have two plenary speakers, Mr. Charles Earl, Executive Director of Community and Technical Colleges of State of Washington and Dr. Neil Anderson, a well-known expert in second language reading and language learning strategies from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. We also have a special session facilitated by Dr. Alfonso Anaya, Director of Migrant and Bilingual Education, OSPI.
Please visit our website at www.waesol.org for conference and registration information. You can also find Travel Grants and Conference Scholarship information on the website.
