2012 WAESOL Board Members

All WAESOL Board members are volunteers who also are professional ESL teachers or bi-lingual education teachers or teach in related fields.

Below are the various responsibilities of the board positions. The WAESOL Constitution and By-laws also lists different responsibilities of the board members.

Members at Large
There are eight members-at-large at a time serving on the board with at least one member-at-large representing the area of the state outside of the Puget Sound region. Four new ones are elected each year so that the terms overlap, with experienced members-at-large and new members-at-large being on the board each year.

Members-at-large serve 2-year terms each from January through December. They attend the four board meetings per year (see dates below), and they serve on one or more standing committees (Nominating Committee,
WAESOL World Quarterly Committee, WAESOL Community Forum Committee, Professional Board Development Committee, or Socio-Political Concerns Committee). All board members are also required to be involved in the WAESOL (or Tri-TESOL) Conference Committee before, during, and after the conference to help plan, carry out, and do necessary follow-up for the annual conference.

It is expected that, in addition to the 4 board meetings annually, each board member serve a minimum of 30-40 hours per year on one or more of these committees mentioned above and on conference planning.

For your information, Seattle and WAESOL have been chosen as the host affiliate for 2017 TESOL Annual Convention. The board members at the time will be expected to be on the TESOL planning committee.

Also, involvement on the WAESOL often requires familiarity with Internet tools such as Google Docs, online forums, an online MySQL database (mostly by the leadership and Administrative Assistant) and Internet sites that require logging in.

Please consider serving as a board member by contacting WAESOL President Naomi Elliott.

Board meetings are held four times a year and are open to any WAESOL member. WAESOL will reimburse all or most of a board member's travel expenses when attending the board meetings.
