Center Director

Embassy CES is accepting applications for Center Director for our school on the campus of Pacific Lutheran University. Embassy CES, a leader in English language training, teaches English to international students. The Center Director will be responsible for the overall management of our unique ESL and university transition programs on-site at PLU. Reporting directly to the West Coast Operations Director, the Center Director will be responsible for: • overall operations of the center • managing relationships with university officers and staff • ensuring high levels of student satisfaction • keeping informed as a DSO of regulatory requirements and policies and ensuring that the Center is in compliance, following related Study Group procedures • developing and implementing customer service and public relations/promotional activities that will result in growth at the Center • general management of all center staff • development and adherence of center budget • ensuring center is ACCET compliant Qualifications: • College graduate, masters preferred. IESL position

Green River Community College is currently recruiting for several adjunct full time instructors.   The Intensive ESL program at Green River Community College is expecting to grow by almost 40% this fall quarter. We are in need of capable, qualified, and enthusiastic instructors who want to join our team and work hard. Our wages are very competitive, all contracts are for 20 contact hours per week, all our instructors have work cubicles and their own computers, and we provide full orientation and mentoring to help new staff acclimate to our systems and processes.
 

TESOL position

We have a new site in South Park for which we are hiring a teacher, mostly Spanish-speaking students, highly enthusisatic group of folks.  The class meets Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-7:30.  Classes are 1.5 hours we pay an additional half hour of prep time per class.

Literacy NOW, a division of Tacoma Community House, strengthens our state’s adult literacy system by providing literacy advocacy, training, resources, and information and referral.  Since 1982, we have trained over 30,000 volunteers across the state to teach adult literacy and ESL, published 12 books, and provided capacity-building support to the state’s volunteer literacy programs.   Last year, we launched a statewide adult literacy hotline and online directory to help low-literate and limited English speaking adults find instruction in their communities and to raise awareness about the need for adult literacy services in Washington.

 

Literacy NOW (www.LiteracyNOW.info) is looking for a detail-oriented task master with a passion for adult literacy.

 

TITLE:                          Literacy Network Of Washington--Assistant 2

 

DEPARTMENT: Educational Services

 

JOB SUMMARY:           Under the direction of the Literacy NOW Coordinator, the Literacy NOW Assistant 2 assists in the operation of a statewide division that provides 1) coordination, support, and training to a network of volunteer literacy programs, and 2) information and referral for adult literacy organizations in Washington.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:      

1.       Arrange logistics, registration, travel, materials distribution, and site management for statewide workshops and other events;

2.       Provide ESL and literacy training information to statewide programs and maintain relationships with program coordinators;

3.       Maintain Literacy NOW statistical data and records system including a training database;

4.       Collect statewide data from literacy providers and develop reports;

5.       Order and maintain inventory of ESL and literacy training materials;

6.       Maintain Literacy NOW accounts receivable data;

7.       Maintain statewide directory database as needed by entering, modifying and deleting literacy programs’ information;

8.       Provide information and referral to adult literacy directory and hotline users;

9.       Assist in the maintenance of Literacy NOW web site pages, www.LiteracyNOW.info;

10.   Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

                                   

Education:             2 years college; B.A. preferred

 

Skills:                     Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook

                                    Demonstrated ability to write/edit a document

Demonstrated ability to be detail oriented and accurate

                                    Good interpersonal communication skills

Ability to plan, organize, and execute projects independently

                                    Valid Washington state driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation

                                    Ability to communicate effectively in a team and under pressure

Ability to prioritize to meet multiple deadlines

                                   

Experience:           2 years experience in a clerical or administrative assistant position

                                    3 years experience with word processing and database maintenance

                                   

Preferred:              Bilingual Spanish or Russian skills

                                    Experience in educational and/or multicultural setting

SUMMARY:                   The Literacy NOW Coordinator has overall responsibility for the operation of Literacy NOW, a division of Tacoma Community House that provides training, resources, information and referral, advocacy, and technical assistance for adult literacy providers across the state.  

                       

DUTIES:          

1.         Coordinate program advocacy activities

2.         Plan and develop Literacy NOW proposals and activities

3.         Evaluate and monitor program services

4.         Hire, supervise, coordinate and evaluate staff performance, including contract trainers

5.         Maintain all program records and contracts, and submit billings as

            appropriate

6.         Develop and maintain Literacy NOW budget

7.         Coordinate design of workshops for specific purposes, for both fee and contracted services

8.         Coordinate scheduling and logistics of Literacy NOW workshops

            and activities

9.         Develop contacts and market fee-for- services to companies and

            organizations

10.        Provide on-going technical assistance to volunteer programs

            statewide

11.        Plan, coordinate and conduct activities for regional, statewide and national conferences and meetings

12.        Participate and represent the agency in meetings, committees, and organizations related to Literacy NOW

13.        Develop and/or supervise production of materials

14.        Other duties as assigned.                                             

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  Education:                 B.A. degree in education or related field

                                    Additional specialized in volunteer management highly recommended

 

  Skills:                         Excellent organizational skills

                                    Ability to communicate effectively both in oral and written form

                                    Demonstrated ability to work independently under tight deadlines

                                    Knowledge of refugee and immigrant cultures, adult education and volunteer management

                                    Knowledge of training theory highly desired

                                    Ability to create and manage contracts and budgets

                                    Team building, managerial and supervisory skills

 

  Experience:               2 years volunteer management experience

                                    2 years ESL or ABE teaching experience

                                    2 years supervisory experience

                                    2 years training experience desired

                                   

REPORTS TO:              Education Program Director

 

SALARY:                      This is a full-time position with medical, dental and retirement benefits.  Salary range is $40,479-$42,172 depending upon qualifications.  Closes May 31, 2007.
